一 只 耳 朵 触 发 十 年 战 争
the war of jenkins's ear arose out of britain's illicit trade in spanish america. in 1738, a british sea captain robert jenkins appeared before parliament to exhibit an ear pickled in brine. he alleged that it was his ear, cut off by the spanish coast guard while they were carrying out a search of his ship in the caribbean. the british government, determined to continue its drive towards commercial and military domination of the atlantic basin, used this incident as an excuse to declare war on spain.
the war came to an end in 1748 without any gain of territory on either side.
