此诗与范成大《田家》同样写农村四月的繁忙景象，但范诗轻快，翁诗神韵。翁诗背景阔大，绿和白成为诗中画面的底色，雨如烟典型刻画了江南乡村四月的烟雨天气，杜鹃声声更显得悠扬动人。第三、第四句时神来之笔，我们如闭目凝想，就仿佛看到江南辽阔田间一个个活动着的圆点，那是农夫头戴斗笠身穿蓑衣，在田间插秧呢。该诗主旨鲜明，画意俱足。
