Guo Degang was born in Tianjin in 1973. He began to learn pingshu (评书) when he was 8 years old.
Guo went to Beijing in 1995 and established Deyun She (LiuxuePaper Note:德云社), a xiangsheng(Crose Talk Comedy) organization, in 1996. He started in teahouses and achieved nationwide fame.
Guo played a supporting role in a 2007 film Getting Home.
